March 15 – June 2nd, 2019
Our purpose in going to the Fine Art Museum of New Orleans today, April 3, was to leave an original book in the bookstore, one of our BookDrop series. Outside the museum was torrential rain, and inside the lobby a lot of wet coats. We looked at the bookstore and it was bright and beautiful but without the rows of spines that you see in typical bookstores and libraries. Plate stands displayed the beautiful covers of art books instead.
Adjusted to the interior light and sheltered from the sound of wind and rain we went into the large gallery spaces on the main floor where the museum shows its temporary and changing exhibits, and there we met the work of Keith Sonnier, full of colored neon light and bright colors as if we were back on the streets of the city in a parade at twilight.
