Tate Britian does a show about the turn of the last century movement called Vorticism – which showed up around WWI. The Vorticists made a break from previous thinkers – like the Omega Workshop, the Beaux Arts revivalists of the late 1800s and those known as the Bloomsbury Group.
It’s most obvious effect was to bring in Art Deco and send out Art Nouveau.
I felt thrown back into this time, which I have been studying from an art historical sense, and how it lead into Dada – in Britain at least. The work is recognizable so it is less hard to understand than Dada or total abstraction. However, these artists did claim to make the very first abstract photograph.
